Happy Valentine’s Day! A Sweetheart Quilt in the Making!

Happy Valentine’s Day! A Sweetheart Quilt in the Making!

Don’t you love making special projects for holidays? This “Sweetheart” quilt pattern just looked adorable! I put it on my list of things to make and set a goal to have it done by Valentine’s Day and just barely met my deadline. It was designed by Nadra Ridgeway. She has so many creative, clever and beautiful quilting designs on her website. I loved the pattern, the vintage inspired fabrics and the patchwork border.

The little hearts with bows look like boxes of chocolates!

I selected 5 different red print fabrics for the hearts and then 5 different vintage-inspired fabrics to add pops of color. There is something so satisfying about being creative, laying all the fabrics out and combining colors and designs. This would also be a great quilt to make using your fabric stash.

These are some of my favorite hearts! Now to get it quilted and the binding on.

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!!

Sparkle Sweetheart Cookies

Sparkle Sweetheart Cookies

Sparkle Sweetheart Cookies – how adorable! Another great recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction blog – her recipes are amazing!

These are simple to make. Whisk your flour, baking powder and salt together and set aside. Cream butter and cream cheese, add sugar, then egg and extracts, beating to combine each with each addition.

Add the dry ingredients and mix on low. The dough will be thick. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30-60 minutes.

Preheat oven for 350 degrees. Roll balls of cookie dough, with about 1 tablespoon of dough in each one. Slightly flatten tops with glass or measuring cup. Bake 12-13 minutes.

Let cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then press a chocolate heart into each cookie.

Then quickly set the baking sheet in the freezer or refrigerator for about 15 minutes to keep the chocolate from completely melting. Once the chocolate has set, you can remove.

Such cute sparkly cookies – just what you need for a Valentine Party!

I used red, pale pink (which almost looked white once it was baked) and a red-silver mix sanding sugar. But you could vary the sugar color according to the holiday – or your favorite colors!

Time to Create Your Cricut Valentine Projects

Time to Create Your Cricut Valentine Projects

Is it really February already? It is time to create Valentine projects. There are so many places you can look for inspiration for your Valentine Cricut projects – from their Design Space, to Pinterest to Etsy shops. In my opinion, some of the best kids’ t-shirts for projects are found at Hobby Lobby, but other craft and discount stores carry them also.

It is always fun to change the design a bit by changing the colors, rearranging or adding layers or combining files to create a whole new design.

These two t-shirts are for Berkley, our almost 2-year old grandson. He is just adorable and loves to play outdoors and indoors! I am sure he will be creative, like his parents, so it will be so fun to be creating crafts with him soon.

Look at that face! Is that not just too adorable? This was from my last year’s post about Valentine s-shirts. I love this photo – it makes me smile every time I see it! So cute – and so happy!

These are the shirts I made for Berkley last year. Since his dad, John, is an Emergency and Disaster Management Coordinator at NWMSU, I thought the volcano was a fun first Valentine shirt. I am sure they have already read books about volcanos together.

And since he is always so happy, this reminded me of him. I am so thankful that Lauren takes so many photos of Berkley and shares them with us. The HTV is so much easier to weed than paper! The backing pulls off so easily.

This just caught my eye as I was looking at Etsy designs. If you have raised boys, you will get it! I learned to download a SVG file and import it into the Cricut design space. It wasn’t as hard as I thought.

Then I used the Contour editing tool to edit the design and just cut the trees for the front pocket. I used videos from the Cricut and Jennifer Maker websites to help guide me through the process.

Along the way, I did happen to see a cute little Valentine card to make too! It was a productive and creative weekend!
