Remember the Homemade Cheese Bread that I posted two days ago? It was so good that I decided to make it again, this time swirling pepper jack cheese instead of cheddar cheese in the middle.

Once you have mixed the dough and allowed it rise, it is time to shape the bread. Roll it into a 9 x 15-inch rectangle and sprinkle cheese over the top, leaving about a 1/2 inch border around the edges.

Tightly roll into a 15-inch log. At this point, I placed it on a baking sheet and put it in the freezer for about 5 minutes, just to let it firm up a bit before cutting it.

Using a sharp knife, cut the log in half lengthwise.

Criss-cross one half, cut side down, on top of the other half, forming an X. Tightly twist the two together.

Pinch the other edges to seal, tuck any extra cheese into the folds. Brush on a mixture of melted butter, garlic powder and fresh herbs.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 45-55 minutes, covering with aluminum foil after about 25 minutes to keep it from overbrowning.

Let cool, slice and serve. As you can see, the pepper jack cheese swirls hardly show up – but the taste is so good! I think if I use a light colored cheese again, I will top the cheese with fresh herbs, or add a darker cheese in with the light, so that the swirls are more noticeable. A great recipe and fun to make!
This is another recipe from the Sally’s Baking Addiction blog – – which I am almost addicted to. I really like every recipe I have ever tried from her blog – and she gives such great instructions. Click on the link below for the recipe, directions and great photos:
