Cranberry Orange Buttermilk Muffins – For Breakfast or Snacking

Cranberry Orange Buttermilk Muffins – For Breakfast or Snacking

Muffins are such a delicious way to start your day! Plus they are quick and easy to make! After the holidays I had a bag of cranberries left over, along with some buttermilk and walnuts. I found this tasty recipe to use all of them.

Cranberries and oranges are such a good combination! The tart cranberries and sweet oranges really complement each other. You can use other other fruits and other citrus zest for this recipe, but this is a good pair to start with.

An added bonus is the streusel topping. This one is made of butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and walnuts. Love the cinnamon flavor and crunch that the streusel adds. I sprinkled a bit of sanding sugar on top for some extra sparkle.

Best warm right out of the oven, but you can also warm them up for about 20 seconds in the microwave for a quick snack later. Enjoy!

Grandma Davitt’s Christmas Jello Salad

Grandma Davitt’s Christmas Jello Salad

Create Memories With A Christmas Quilt

Create Memories With A Christmas Quilt

Merry Christmas!!! Homemade gifts are such treasures to create and to receive! This past year I have been practicing my sewing and piecing skills, so I have stitched up a few quilts, some to keep and some to share.

This pattern for this one is called “Triangularity” by Jeni Baker and the fabric is from the Rifle Paper Company (which by the way has so many wonderful products, from wallpaper to fabric to umbrellas). I had seen a similar design on a quilting post and just loved the fabrics.

You can order the Rifle Paper Company fabric from their website. I ordered fat quarters from a couple of different Etsy shops because I wanted small amounts of specific colors with splashes of other colors to add balance to the design.

I loved the nostalgic theme, highlighting favorite Christmas memories…going home for Christmas, attending the Nutcracker, visiting the Christmas tree farm, hopping in the car to look at Christmas lights and lots of holiday sparkle and shine.

The perfect throw to snuggle under during the Christmas season.

Our Christmas puppy at the front door – such a cutie!

This Christmas quilt was made for our son, Andrew, who just moved into his new apartment in Kansas City. I used my embroidery machine to made a label in the corner.

I thought Andrew would need some Christmas decorations for his new home, so I included some of his favorite colors, along with fabrics that had designs that would bring back treasured Christmas memories. So fun creating treasures! Merry Christmas!!!

Stitch Up a Mug Rug for a Quick Homemade Gift

Stitch Up a Mug Rug for a Quick Homemade Gift

Mug Rugs are a popular Christmas craft this year. If you enjoy sewing, it is the perfect project to use up some of your holiday fabric stash and create a personalized homemade gift.

Most mug rugs are about 4 x 7 inches, so there is room for a mug and a tasty treat, like a Christmas cookie! They are like coasters, but with extra room for snacks. Some patterns also have a 12 x 8 option that have room for a mug and a bowl or small plate. They work great to protect your table, desk or work space.

These designs are from Kimberbell, but there are so many sources of patterns available – many can be found free on Pinterest or other sites. Or you can create your own design. You could include a couple of mug rugs with your cookie trays.

Have fun making cute little mug rugs! These will just make you smile! Now time for a cup of warm hot cocoa and a Christmas cookie -or two. Merry Christmas!!!!!
