Godfather Bread Has a Great Combination of Flavors – Cheese, Bacon, Onions and Peppers

Bread, cheese, bacon, onions and peppers together-hard to beat. This recipe has this great combination of flavors. Relatively easy because it uses frozen bread dough. I really like not only the convenience of purchased frozen bread dough but the taste and texture are beyond what…

Easter Egg Fun, Centerpieces and Spring Truffles

Easter Egg Fun, Centerpieces and Spring Truffles

Remember coloring Easter eggs? Always going to be fun and probably a spill or two when the Paas coloring kit came out. The plastic eggs work well to decorate and I have found that the plastic sleeve in the Paas kit adheres to them with no issues. Simply dip the sleeve enclosed egg is lightly boiling water until the sleeve shrinks to the egg. So quick and easy and can be used the next year.

Last year I painted egg cartons and cut them up to use for centerpieces. Eggs, candy, flowers and tea light candles in egg shells look festive.

This year was much better because my sweet sister, Mary Beth, gave me some spring colored egg cartons. She’s very thoughtful that way. Fun to fill with eggs, decorate with and give as gifts.

Oreo truffles are a hit around here so I made Easter egg truffles. Combine 1 package crushed oreos and 8 ounces cream cheese. Roll out between two sheets of parchment paper.

I used these cookie cutters I bought from Amazon.

Chill the truffles in the refrigerator while you melt and color the candy melts or almond bark. Dip and have fun decorating.

Wafer cookies are a nice treat to have also.

Have fun being creative and spending time with your family and friends this Easter!

Chocolate Supreme Pie

Chocolate Supreme Pie

This is another family favorite. It’s so quick and easy and oh, so good!

Beat the pudding mix with the milk for 2 minutes. Add ice cream (I set this out a few minutes before to soften) and mix at low speed. Fold in whipped topping reserving some for the top or whip your own cream.

Pour into a 9″ graham cracker crust. I make my own crust using 1 1/2 cups finely crushed graham crackers, 1/4 cup sugar and 6 Tablespoons melted butter but a store bought crust works wonderfully.

Top with remaining whipped topping and chill. Very simple and easy to make ahead.

The pie is also good frozen.

Kitchen Aprons

Kitchen Aprons

I have always had a fascination with kitchen aprons. Maybe it’s because my grandmothers both wore them. One wore the full apron usually and one the half. I remember several of them specifically-gingham with embroidery on the large pockets and pretty floral prints.

Recently I decided to make some aprons for gifts and I also made one for myself in the process. These three aprons are all reversible, even some ruffles.

I had so much fun coordinating fabrics for the special ones I made them for and trying to match favorite colors and patterns to their personalities. True confession here I am not speedy at decision making so it took almost as much time choosing my fabric as making the aprons. Okay, maybe a slight exaggeration, but I was in the fabric department for a long time.

There are many patterns available but I measured and made my own. After each side is trimmed as desired, pin the two right sides together, making sure the ruffles and ties are all inside the seam line. Stitch a 5/8 inch seam around the outside of the apron pieces leaving a 4 inch opening so the apron can be turned right side out. After sewing the seam, trim and grade the seam allowances and clip the curves. Turn the apron right side out and stitch the opening closed with a blind stitch. Press well. The pattern is simple but adding the pockets, ruffles and trim customized the aprons. Before gift wrapping the aprons I put a matching spatula in the pocket. Fun project!

Note: If you do want to use a pattern, there are many available through Amazon, search for vintage apron patterns. If you are near a fabric store, most pattern books have aprons in the home or craft section. Have fun!
