Peanut Blossoms

It just wouldn’t be Christmas without baking some Peanut Blossoms! The peanut butter, the sugary cracked crust – and the chocolate Hershey kisses are all wonderful parts of these holiday cookies.

There are many variations of these and so many different recipes, but the one I attached at the bottom is the one that our family has been making for years.

These Peanut Blossom cookies are one of our Christmas traditions. We always made enough for our family and some extras to share. Wouldn’t your friends and neighbors love to have some of these? Have fun getting our your favorite holiday recipes and sharing them – and of course eating them! Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 package Hershey's Kisses
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup packed dark brown sugar (or light brown)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • granulated sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees and unwrap Hershey kisses.
  • Cream shortening and peanut butter together in a large bowl. Add sugars and mix to combine.
  • Add egg, milk and vanilla, beat well.
  • In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt. Gradually add flour mixture to creamed mixture; blend thoroughly.
  • Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll in granulated sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Immediately place an unwrapped kiss on top of each cookie, pressing down so that the cookie cracks around the edges. Let cool on baking sheet 2-3 minutes. Continue cooling on rack.

Notes

To make these extra festive for the holidays, you could use red and/or green granulated sugar to roll the dough balls in before baking.
