Spending time outdoors is good for your soul – and your health! I know I feel better when I take time to go outside each day. It might be to walk around the reservoir, mow the lawn, pull some weeds in the garden or take the dog for a walk.

In the February issue of the Missouri Conservation Magazine, the article “Good Medicine from the Great Outdoors” highlighted the benefits of spending time with nature.https://mdc.mo.gov/conmag/2019-02/good-medicine-great-outdoors

Recent research cited in the article shows that spending time in nature “reduces the risk of type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, premature death, preterm birth, stress and high blood pressure…healthier memory.”

When our kids were little, going outside was on their allowance chart. I always thought it was important for kids to run and play outside. The article states that “Nature can stimulate a child’s creativity, boost confidence, and calm emotions.” The studies show that “nature boosts the ability of children and adults to learn.”

Take time to look at and enjoy the flowers around you…this time of year there are so many beautiful flowers and trees.

It is time to plant gardens – another wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors. You also add physical exercise. The green houses are full of plants and ideas for you to create your own garden.
Go outdoors and improve your health!!! Take a walk in the sunshine!
Enjoy!
