Baby quilts are just so adorable! And what a great gift to give! I think handmade items make some of the best gifts and often become family keepsakes. I know I still have baby blankets that were quilted and crocheted for our children – all tucked away in their keepsake boxes.

For this baby quilt, I used a pattern from the Stitchery Dickory Dock blog by Amy Gibson called “To the Point”. You start with 1 jelly roll consisting of 42 strips 2.5″ of fabric and 2 5/8 yard of white or background fabric. You will also need fabric for the backing and binding. This will make 2 baby quilts or one large quilt.

Stitch your strips together lengthwise in groups of 3 and press. You should have 14 strips.

Cut the strip sets into 6.5″ squares. You can get 6 squares from each strip set. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on each of the squares, cut along the line, creating 2 triangles from each square. Then cut 14 strips from your background fabric, 6.5″ wide x the width of your fabric, and cut into 6.5″ squares. Repeat the process of cutting those squares into triangles.

Plan your design and begin stitching the triangles together, forming blocks first and then rows. This one was 9 blocks x 9 blocks, but you can adjust to fit your needs. In the website below, you will ideas for different ways you can design your quilt with these blocks.

Remember to sign your quilt in some way. You can use machine or hand embroidery to add your name. You can also buy or create custom labels. We always think we will remember who gave us treasured keepsakes, but 20-30 years later it is hard to remember.

Mary Kay Lambert, Allendale, MO did the daisy design quilting. Just perfect for a little girl’s baby quilt! She did a beautiful job! Her website is listed below:

Cute little animals and bright colors make this such a cute quilt!

I had a few blocks left over after piecing two baby quilts (because I made the other one a bit smaller), so I decided to create two more projects. One was this a doll blanket. (I did need to buy additional fabric for the border and backing.)

And I added a matching bib, using the Quilt as You Go Baby Bib kit from Amazon.

I used to sew quite a bit, on the job and for pleasure, but then when we started our family, it slowed down to a baby blanket and a baby outfit for for each one, then eventually down to sewing on scout badges, creating costumes…
