Ingredients
4largetart apples (such as Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, or Jonathan), cored and sliced, either peeled or unpeeled
fresh lemon juice, optional
1/2cupbutter
1/4cupgranulated sugar
1/4cuppacked dark brown sugar
1tablespooncinnamon
1/2teaspoonsalt
Instructions
Wash, core and slice apples. You can peel the apples, I prefer to leave the peel on. I use an apple corer slicer and then cut each slice in half. If the apples are going to sit a bit before you cook them, sprinkle with lemon juice and stir to prevent the apple slices from browning.
Melt butter in a cast iron skillet over medium heat.
Add sugars, cinnamon and salt. Stir to combine, add apples and stir.
Cover and cook over low heat for about 20 minutes or until the apples are tender, stirring frequently. The cooking time will depend on the type of apple used, thickness of apple slices and cooking temperature. You want the apples to be tender and to hold their shape, but not get to soft and mushy.
Remove the cover and raise the heat to medium high. Cook, stirring oven for about 5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
Ready to eat! Best served warm!
Notes
You can adjust the ingredients to your taste. If you want less sauce, you can use less butter and reduce the amount of sugars accordingly. These are also good with a bit of nutmeg added.
